The Church of St Philip and St James lies at the geographical centre of the parish but in one of the least populated areas. The parish is rural covering small hamlets, and part of the village of Pant. The majority of the parish population of 843 is over 40.

The church was built in 1873 with local stone, though the site has been a place of worship since 1685. Today the regular worship takes place every Sunday and lay members are encouraged to take part. Holy Communion Services use Common Worship order 1 (contemporary language). There is also a choir that sings once a month and for festivals and weddings. At major festivals the parish, including the wider community, holds special celebrations. These include the Christmas Tree festival, the Nativity Procession and the Shrove Tuesday Pancake race.

Morton has a church Tuesday Club, which is a Ladies Church Fellowship group that meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Guests are invited to speak, there are trips out, and opportunities for fellowship and social activity.

The church produces a monthly magazine and has an active programme of social and fund raising events. In this way church life also embraces the wider community, offering an opportunity for the church to be seen as a major part of village life.

Morton is a lively and happy church, well loved by its regular members.

We believe that the mission of this Church isn't our mission, but God's. We wish to be attentive to his voice and be obedient to him as he calls us to share in that mission. To do this we recognize that we need to maintain and improve the spiritual health of the church and of ourselves.

We understand that the Church is the body of Christ in this place and that we each have a role to play in the life of the body. We will recognize, enable and support the individual gifts of the congregation and allow them to express their particular ministry in the mission of the Church in this place.

We believe that God is calling us to make his church the hub of a dispersed community by nurturing and caring for all those within the parish, and by doing so proclaim the saving gospel of Jesus to the wider community.

We believe that by reaching out into the wider parish and revealing the love and care of Christ to the world in word, thought and deed. Numerical growth can not be contrived, but as a result of being attentive to God and committed to his call growth will be natural and organic.
